Ahmon Hen

I took a break from gluing squares of cardboard onto the Helms Deep build and built an Ahmon Hen. It’s another bit of terrain needed for the journey book scenarios and as I had all the materials out I thought I may as well get it done. Rather than using the instructions in the journey book I used the instructions from a One Ring article available at http://www.one-ring.co.uk/kb.php?a=17. The article has some good instructions and downloadable templates which make the build very easy.

I am going to texture and paint this at the same time as helms deep to save on mixing up separate batches of stuff. This means it will be a little while until its finished.

I am now working out what other terrain I need to get done. The next big piece is going to be Weather top but I might make the Balins tomb bits first as these can be used for some good standalone games. I also need to make a couple of hills and maybe some river sections.

Helms Deep

Making a Helms Deep is something I have wanted to do for ages. We had a lazy weekend planned so me and the boys decided we would make a start on the build. I am using the instructions from the Lord of the Rings Two Towers journey book with the odd modification. The instructions are very straight forward and the foam board structure makes the sections light and strong. The modular way it’s constructed will mean that it can be used for the multiple small scenarios in the journey book or it can be all linked together to be used for the full battle. It also means it’s going to be much easier to store. pics 274

The gatehouse. Due to the lack of 10mm foam board I had to alter some of the measurements a bit.

Still on the list of things to do to complete the set up are – A rocky raised section to put the gatehouse on Two curved wall sections Another standard wall section It will be a little while before I have the finished sections to show off but I am planning on working on it over the next couple of weeks. I also now need to crack on and paint a few bits needed for the relevant scenarios so I have started base coating a Uruk battering ram, a siege ballista, some demo teams and a few ladders. I am also planning on getting my Haldier’s elves done so we can do book and film versions of the scenarios.
